GMP inspectorates of Russia and Uzbekistan signed an Agreement on Cooperation

At the Second International Industrial Exhibition EXPO-RUSSIA Uzbekistan 2019, the Deputy Head of the Russian state GMP inspectorate Mr. Vladislav Shestakov and the Director of the Agency for Pharmaceutical Industry Development of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Sardor Kariev signed an Agreement on Cooperation in terms of inspections for compliance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice.

This week, the Second International Industrial Exhibition EXPO-RUSSIA Uzbekistan 2019 took place in Uzbekistan. This region is one of the key partners in the pharmaceutical sector: «Russia remains one of the key suppliers of pharmaceutical and medical products to Uzbekistan,» the First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Tsyb emphasized.

Representatives of Minpromtorg of Russia gave special consideration to harmonization of registration procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices and marking of drugs. The same topics are given special priority by the Government of Uzbekistan as well.

«This suggests that Russia and Uzbekistan have a huge potential towards development of  diversified cooperation,» Mr. Sergey Tsyb outlined. «First of all, we mean cooperation between regulatory authorities of our countries.» The result of such cooperation has become signing of the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Institute of Drugs and Good Practices of Minpromtorg of Russia authorized to carry out GMP inspections of foreign manufacturers and the Agency for Pharmaceutical Industry Development of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan as an outcome of a round-table discussion.

Apart from standard work-related issues of cooperation between the inspectorates, it is planned to organize joint informational, training and consulting events with involvement of inspectorates of the two countries, exchange of the information aimed at assuring the quality of drugs and fighting against counterfeit products.

Speaking at the round table titled «Development of Russia-Uzbekistan Cooperation in Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry», Mr. Vladislav Shestakov provided the data for 2016-2018 on the volume of pharmaceutical products exported from Uzbekistan in the total volume of drugs market in the Russian Federation – it comprised USD 618 th. in monetary terms.

As reported by the Federal Public Statistics Service of Uzbekistan, the volume of pharmaceutical products imported to Uzbekistan in 2018 was USD 852 mln. The volume of Russian supplies of drugs and medical equipment in 2018 was USD 86.2 mln. As compared with the previous year, the volume of goods exported from Russia increased by 19%. Based on the results for 2018, the volume of the Russian market of drugs was RUB 1 trn. 285 bln., out of which RUB 2.9 bln. were a part of pharmaceutical products exported to Uzbekistan – 99,254,326 packs. In 2017-2018, 231 INNs and 16 tradenames with an unidentified INN were exported from Russia to Uzbekistan. The top three Russian exporters are OJSC Kraspharma which shipped 12.8 mln. packs for the amount of RUB 0.6 bln.; LLC Feron which supplied to Uzbekistan 1.6 mln. packs for the amount of RUB 0.3 bln.; and LLC Geropharm which exported 0.3 mln. packs for the amount of RUB 0.2 bln.
