Russian GMP Inspectorate and the African Medicines Agency Hold a Meeting

On September 17, 2026, on the sidelines of the XI All-Russian GMP Conference in Stavropol, a working meeting took place between representatives of the Russian GMP Inspectorate and African Medicines Agency (AMA).

During the meeting, the parties discussed the operational aspects of GMP inspectorates. The AMA representative shared the agency’s experience regarding:

• The implementation of the current centralised procedure for applying for marketing authorisation of medicinal products through the AMA;
• Conducting centralised GMP inspections of manufacturing sites through the AMA;
• The mechanism for mutual recognition of GMP certificates (or other permitting documents) between the AMA participating countries;
• The recognition of AMA inspection findings (or national inspections of participating countries) by regulatory authorities of third countries and organisations such as PIC/S, WHO, and EMA.

The parties emphasised the importance of fostering a constructive dialogue and exchanging experience. They reaffirmed their interest in developing cooperation, and agreed to maintain a regular dialogue on relevant issues, including within the framework of the International Forum of Pharmaceutical Inspectorates (IFPI) scheduled for November 2026 in Vietnam. Additionally, they expressed their intention to begin work on a bilateral agreement in the near future.
