On 30 March 2021 FSI “SID & GP” and Ministry of the People’s Power for Health of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela signed a cooperation agreement

On the 30th of March in Caracas, Venezuela, within the framework of the meeting of co-chairs of a high level Russian-Venezuelan Intergovernmental Commission, a signing between FSI “State Institute of Drugs and Good Practices” of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ministry of the People’s Power for Health of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela took place.

On the first day of the official visit of the Russian delegation to Caracas, the signing of cooperation agreement was held, in which Deputy Head of the Russian State GMP Inspectorate, Director of FSI “SID & GP” Vladislav Shestakov and the People’s Power for Health of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Carlos Humberto Alvarado González took part. The agreement was signed in the presence of the head of delegation of a High level Commission, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov.

The agreement affirms the intent both countries’ pharmaceutical inspectors for long-term cooperation on issues related to joint training and consulting events within the scope of their professional activities and competencies, fight against falsified medicines in both countries, exchange of information, practical experience in carrying out GMP inspections in order to ensure good quality of drugs, participation in regulatory inspections for compliance with GMP rules in the capacity of observers.

“Cooperation between our countries, especially during the period of overcoming the consequences of the new coronavirus infection, undoubtedly, is important and has great potential for both sides. Today our States have made another step towards forming policy in drug security. Joint projects, exchange of experience, protection of the market from poor quality drugs allows to ensure the safety of patients in Russia as well as in Venezuela”, – noted Director of FSI “SID & GP” Vladislav Shestakov.

The signing of this memorandum is an important and significant event in the history of cooperation between FSI “SID & GP” and Ministry of the People’s Power for Health of Venezuela, National Institute of Hygiene “Rafael Rangel” and the Autonomous Sanitary Control Service of Venezuela (SACS).

In addition, Director of FSI “SID&GP” Vladislav Shestakov personally invited the representatives of the Venezuelan inspectorate to participate in the Annual All-Russia GMP conference, which will be held in autumn 2021.

It should be reminded that the pharmaceutical market of Venezuela is the 4th largest in Latin America (after Brazil, Mexico and Argentina). Among the key Venezuelan international partners, who are assisting the country in terms of supplying the medicines that are in shortage for the country’s population, President Nicolas Maduro singled out Russia, Iran, Belarus, China and Turkey. In October 2020 Sputnik V clinical trials started in Venezuela. President’s children took part in these trials, and a little while later, having positively assessed the results of their vaccination, Nicolas Maduro and his wife got vaccinated.
