Vladislav Shestakov: “Time not to contemplate, but to act!”

Today, the forum CHEMEX: “Chemistry. Pharma. Biotech. New Challenges” has kicked off in Yerevan.

The Forum’s discussion sections brought together representatives of the chemical industry, pharmaceutical sector, and academic community. The Forum itself can become the channel for businesses of Russia, Armenia, and the EAEU member states to identify points of mutually beneficial cooperation in the manufacturing and scientific fields and to build a platform for a productive development of chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors.

Vladislav Shestakov, Director of the FSI “State Institute of Drugs and Good Practices”, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, delivered his remarks, in the course of the session on “Chemico-Pharmaceutical clusters. Interaction within the EAEU. Export potential”. In his speech, Vladislav Shestakov laid emphasis on the need to move from words to concrete actions and projects. Questions related to state support measures for chemical and pharmaceutical production, building inter-industry cooperation, and issues of vertically integrated structures for developing full-cycle production of pharmaceuticals were raised repeatedly at various discussion venues. There is a need to work out mechanisms, which would combine both economic rationality and public interests in the field of national drug safety.

“First of all, the nomenclature has to be defined: we need specific items in a specific volume. Then we need to identify the participants among whom the items will be distributed,” Vladislav Shestakov, Director of FSI “SID & GP”, highlighted. “We need real guarantees from the state; we need to develop state support measures for the domestic chemical industry enterprises. Then the entire system will work in a unified manner, accomplishing the common tasks the state has set before the business”.

At the end of his speech, the Director of the State Institute of Drugs and Good Practices addressed the organizers of the Forum with a suggestion to draw up specific proposals to be sent to the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Governments of Russia and Armenia based on the results of the event.

“Only through joint efforts we are able to elaborate consolidated actions that will later result in actual legislative initiatives and measures to support enterprises throughout the EAEU,” Vladislav Shestakov concluded his speech.
